I’m David Earl, and I’m the New Media Planner for Colonials Sports Marketing, the marketing office that works on behalf of The George Washington University’s Athletics Department.
I’m responsible for developing communities for fans via social media platforms and generating content to keep fans both informed and engaged. While I never played any varsity sports for my alma mater ( I swear I scored 30 once in a fraternity basketball league), I find it thrilling to bring together students and alumni via their common interest in Colonials athletics.
I received my bachelor’s in Political Communication from GW’s School of Media and Public Affairs (SMPA) in December of 2008, and I’ve continued my education at GW, pursuing my M.A. in Global Communication, with an emphasis on Public Diplomacy.
In the five years I’ve interned and worked in Washington, D.C., I’ve worked in government affairs offices, PR firms, publishing companies, baseball stadiums, catering kitchens, university housing and orientation programs and had a brief stint on a cosmetics assembly line.
In that time, I’ve developed a love for social media, strategic communication and multimedia editing, and I love working to understand how and where those realms best intersect.
I live in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington, DC, and I dig GW Basketball, the New York Giants, the New York Mets, Washington’s jazz clubs, and cooking. When I start doing it again for real, I’ll say that I like running, too.
